REVIEWS
“BRILLIANT and MOVING”
‘The film Solstice is a brilliant and moving contribution to our vital need to openly discuss suicide. Everyone concerned about mental health will be engaged and inspired by this story.’
- Sir Graham Thornicroft, United for Global Mental Health
“DEVASTATING and TRIUMPHANT”
At once devastating and triumphant, Solstice tells the tragic story of Australia’s shadow pandemic: Suicide. Following survivors on their journey of loss and grief, Newman exposes the gaping holes in our health system whilst paying tribute to those who’ve fallen through the cracks. Above all else, Solstice shows the power of community in creating real change. This film should be compulsory viewing for all Australians.
- Professor Patrick McGorry, Australian for Mental Health
“A POWERFUL DOCUMENTARY”
It is such a powerful documentary and it was really wonderful to see Stuart, Annette, and their family and the wider community, and to see their story told in such a thoughtful and impactful way. The introduction of others who have lost loved ones and community members to suicide was really sensitively done and helped illustrate the breadth of the issue. The animation was stunning (based on The Red Tree). And both Pat and Graham gave excellent interviews as experts in the field. The inclusion of the Museum of Lost and Found Potential and the campaign was fantastic and thank you for how you weaved that into the story.
- Sarah Kline, CEO UNited for Global Mental Health

“Solstice is exactly what our modern world needs to move towards positive social change. A transformative and powerful film”
- Katherine Plier, International Social Change Film Festival 2022
